WASHINGTON (US Department of State, Office of the Spokesperson) – United States Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo will make the first-ever visit to the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) by a US Secretary of State when he arrives in Pohnpei on August 6, 2019, to reaffirm the special partnership between the US and FSM under the Compact of Free Association.
While in Pohnpei, Secretary Pompeo will meet with the leaders of the FSM, Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI), and the Republic of Palau. He will conclude his visit by laying a wreath to honor the service of the citizens of the Federated States of Micronesia in the US Armed Forces.
The visit is on the return leg of the Secretary’s travel to meetings in Bangkok and Sydney. While in Pohnpei he will also meet with staff of the US Embassy in Kolonia and their families.
